We fell in love with catstudio during a recent trip to AmericasMart Atlanta. The designs are certainly beautiful and creative but what we really love is the ability to mix and match different cities and states to create a collection that is very personal and meaningful.

Take, for example, our own Alison Dodson Anderson. She grew up right here in Virginia. Then she went to college in Louisiana and from there moved to New York City before honeymooning with her husband in France. So her glass tumbler collection might look something like this!

At 4 for $45, the state glasses are a great gift for a bride whose collection is just beginning or a military family who wants to celebrate all the wonderful places their family has called home.

Remember the feeling of going back to school with fresh notebooks unblemished by the scars of assignments and homework? Remember the satisfaction of hearing that *snap* of your prized Strawberry Shortcake Trapper Keeper? In case you’ve forgotten, it felt something like the glory of zipping up your coveted fall boots now. Ahhhh, yes!

For many students right here in Hampton Roads, their family isn’t able to send them back to school with all the items on their school supply list. Some kids start their first day of school with an empty backpack. Or no backpack at all.

That’s why every year A. Dodson’s partners with our amazing customers to collect school supplies. We have relationships with several school counselors who know all too well which students need our help.

Now through the end of August, please consider picking up a few extra school supplies for a child. Drop them off at A. Dodson’s and we’ll be sure the supplies are delivered to the school counselors. If you deliver outside of our store hours (M-Sat 10a-5p) you can leave them on our front porch.

In addition to the typical school supplies like notebooks, pencils and markers please consider any extra clothes your child may have outgrown. From time to time a child needs a change of clothes during the school day or a counselor may recognize that a child needs some extra outfits in their closet. We’re not talking about those fall boots here, maybe just some t-shirts and shorts?

We’ve made some big decisions over the last few months. Most notably we announced our Interior Design services in yesterday’s blog post.

With all big decisions comes change. In order to focus on our Interior Design clients, we’re closing the consignment shop next door. A blowout sale is happening as we speak and there are some amazing items to be found! You should really be there instead of here right now.

But since you are here, maybe you can help us decide who moves in next door? There’s no shortage of great ideas but there’s one in particular we know fills a huge need (and, let’s face it, one that we really really want). A cafe!

And not just any ol’ cafe. The kind that makes you want to hit the pause button, breath deeply and sink on in. The kind you think about long after you’ve left.

Tina Murphy and Alison Dodson Anderson worked their magic to design and decorate the home with products made entirely in the USA.
