Styling A Showcase Home

Posted in Home Decor on March 30th, 2011 by A. Dodson's – 1 Comment

When it comes to building and decorating homes, A. Dodson’s and East West Communities go together like wine and cheese. Theoretically, you could have one without the other but the experience wouldn’t be nearly as delightful.

The pairing was perfect in a new area of Williamsburg known as Liberty Ridge. As final preparations are made to open the doors on the community’s first showcase home, appropriately named Liberty Ridge, we wanted you to see exactly what the fuss is all about.

From the exquisite lighting throughout the home to the oasis of organization in the mudroom, no chance to be fabulous was left undone. Come on it and take a peek for yourself!

The leaves of the natural tree line through the window blend perfectly with the wispy leaves of the chandelier.

Form and function combine the beauty of a chandelier with the comfort of a fan. Genius!

Wine Bottle Floor Lamp

The wine bottle floor lamp is so much fun and the light reflecting off the bottles made it an instant hit in the home’s Man Cave. FYI – the bottles don’t come with the lamp. It was a dirty job but we were happy to do it!

The built-in lockers and bench make storing and organizing coats, shoes and backpacks a breeze!

Without a minute to spare before it’s time to put the special A. Dodson’s touch on the next showcase home, Breakwater, everyone is working tirelessly. But, really, we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Redneck Revolution

Posted in A Day In The Life... on March 17th, 2011 by A. Dodson's – 6 Comments

It happened just before Christmas. We started carrying the RedNek Wine Glass and before you knew it a Redneck Revolution was born at A. Dodson’s!

Redneck Wine Glass

RedNek Wine Glass

Suddenly we started seeing canning jars in a whole new light. We’re using them for everything from displaying family vacation memories to serving signature cocktails. Of course we’ll never get over the hoot of serving wine in the Rednek Wine Glass, and with the new packaging it’s our absolute favorite hostess gift! But here are a few of our other favorite uses…

Vacation Memory Jars

Vacation Memory Jar

Collect a few scoops of sand (or dirt) from your annual family vacation and display it in a canning jar along with a little strip of paper noting the year, the place and a favorite memory. Watch your collection grow along with your anticipation of what next year’s jar might contain.

Mojito Mason Jars

Mojito Mason Jars

Mojitos are always a favorite cocktail and although they’re easy to make, they can be time consuming. Instead of grueling away behind the bar, make a batch of mojitos in advance and serve them in sealed mason jars in a bucket of ice. Let your guests help themselves while you kick back and enjoy the party yourself!

Perfect Mojito Recipe – per serving
1 oz simple syrup
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
2 oz fresh lime juice
2 oz rum
1 sprig mint
Ice
Dash of club soda

Place mint and powdered sugar in the bottom of each glass and muddle. Fill with ice and add lime juice, simple syrup, and rum. Top with club soda. Enjoy!

The ideas are limitless. Start a Redneck Revolution of your own and share your ideas (and photos) with us!

Life’s Too Short Not To… Grow A Spring Garden

Posted in Life's Too Short Not To... on March 10th, 2011 by A. Dodson's – Comments Off

Have you felt it yet? That moment when you notice the shadows are falling a little differently? It’s always an exhilarating feeling – knowing that a change of season is coming and coming soon! And it’s right about now, mid-March, we realize it’s finally okay to start thinking about and preparing for a Spring garden. But how many of us really know what that means… and what to do about it anyway?

Gardening Set

Thanks to our friends over at Smithfield Gardens, we’re offering a gardening workshop on Saturday, March 19th at 11am. They’ll give us a seasonal checklist for our garden, talk about how to make a raised garden and teach us some specifics that will make our yard more fun! To ensure everyone’s garden is off to the right start, no one will leave the workshop empty handed!

So stop by on the 19th, bring your thumb and we’ll turn it green. After all, life’s too short not to… grow a Spring garden!

Does This Outfit Make Me Look Pregnant?

Posted in Apparel and Fashion on March 3rd, 2011 by A. Dodson's – 1 Comment

We had a little fun today and played dress up with all the new spring clothes arriving.  Alison even slipped into a few dresses showing us just how versatile they really are! At 6 months pregnant, a beautiful sundress managed to show off that cute baby bump and shed the winter doldrums.

Brown Halter Dress

We even thought ahead to the dog days of summer and played in the beach ware. Alison put a bathing suit cover up over a pair of jeans to create a maternity top. Paired with a floppy hat and a matching tote, the only things missing were 80 degrees and sunshine!
